What we do
Programs for women under five years of call: peer connection, brunch events, and speakers on practice and life as a junior lawyer.
The AWL Young Women Lawyers (YWL) Committee was founded in 2014 to address the specific needs of female practitioners under five years of call. Retention of women within the first five years of practice has long been a challenge for the legal profession; YWL responds by fostering peer mentoring relationships through regular events with experienced guest speakers on issues relevant to junior members of the bar.
Events are usually informal, often on a Sunday morning over brunch. The committee welcomes suggestions for new topics and speakers.
For dates and details, see upcoming listings on our Events page.
Ideas for topics or speakers may be shared with Noren Hirani or Danica Doucette-Preville.
AWL is volunteer-led. Membership connects you to events, mentoring, student outreach, and committees, whether you want to attend, host, or help shape programming.
